A fugitive who was caught at Dubai airport trying to smuggle drugs in his abdomen, has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
He will be deportated after serving his sentence and pay a Dh50,000 fine.
Public prosecution records show that the 32-year-old Pakistani man arrived at Dubai International Airport on July 15.
He was apprehended by police officers and referred for questioning.
An airport customs inspector told the investigating prosecutor that the defendant was subjected to an X-ray test which detected capsules in his gut.
The accused was then taken to the hospital where he evicted the drug-filled capsules.
The court ordered the seized drugs be confiscated. He denied the charge in court.
When interrogated earlier, the accused confessed he was to deliver the drugs to someone in UAE and was to get paid for the job.
A crime lab report showed that a total of 96 drug capsules, which were seized from the defendant, contained heroin and crystal meth.
He has the right to appeal the verdict within 15 days from the issuance date.
