A 20-year-old student stood trial on Sunday at the Dubai Court of First Instance accused of sexually assaulting a security guard at a resort's swimming pool.
The Emirati defendant has also been charged with physical assault, making threats against the victim and consuming alcohol without a permit.
Public prosecution records show the defendant was under the influence of alcohol on October 26, last year, when he sexually assaulted the guard, and later pushed him and punched him in the face. A case was registered at Al Barsha police station.
The victim, a 24-year-old Egyptian, said that he worked at the resort as a security guard and a lifeguard at its swimming pool.
"On the day of incident, I was on duty and checking on the safety of the guests. As I passed by the swimmers, the defendant approached me and sexually assaulted me."
The guard recounted to the investigator how he then grabbed the defendant's hand telling him: "Don't you feel ashamed of what you have just done?", to which the accused did not reply but rather pushed the victim away.
The defendant was then escorted by the staff out of the swimming pool and taken to the employee in charge of security. "The accused then got close to me and punched me in the face," the complainant recalled.
The defendant's friends then stepped in and took him away. "It was then that he threatened me by saying that he 'is a local and an officer and would not let it go'", the guard told the prosecutor.
The police was then alerted about the matter.
The security manager, an Egyptian, said that he was called up to a problem near the swimming pool. "I saw a crowd of people. The victim was there and I then spotted the defendant breaking loose from his friends and hitting the victim in the face. The defendant was then brought under control."
The accused was arrested shortly later.
During the police interrogation and the public prosecution investigation, he admitted that he assaulted the guard after the latter took him out by force from the swimming pool.
A ruling will be pronounced on February 13.
