An Emirati man was sentenced to six months in jail by the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday for assaulting two on-duty police officers.
Records show that the 37-year-old trader was drunk when he behaved aggressively and verbally abused the officers on September 14.
The defendant pushed the officers and told them he would "beat them up".
A police corporal said he was on patrol duty with a colleague when they were alerted to a problem at a hotel.
"It happened before 1am. When we reached the scene, we spotted the defendant walking out of the hotel with a woman. Both were apparently drunk. The defendant was bleeding profusely from his hand. We called an ambulance for him."
However, the accused refused to get inside the ambulance.
"He was screaming and fiercely resisting. We then took him inside the police car. He verbally abused us as he did not want to be handcuffed," the officer told the prosecutor.
The corporal added that he later went to a hospital to get a medical report for a finger injury.
The other policeman gave a similar statement during the public prosecution investigation.
According to a medical report, the police corporal suffered a hand injury because of the assault.
The defendant can appeal the ruling within 15 days.
