Two Pakistani guards, aged 28 and 25, who were drunk when one of them physically assaulted and resisted two on-duty police officers, were charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The court heard that the incident took place on March 24 this year when the cops were responding to an attempted rape report.
After they took the suspect, who sexually harassed a flatmate, inside the patrol car, his friend - who had threatened to kill the victim for informing the police - behaved aggressively towards them and resisted arrest.
The two guards have been accused of sexually harassing the woman, also a Pakistani, physically assaulting and threatening her, resisting and physically assaulting two on-duty police officers, and verbally abusing them.
They are also charged with consuming alcohol without a permit.
The incident was reported at Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a security guard, said she lived in a shared villa. "I rented a bed space. At 3pm when I was going to the bathroom, one of the defendants sexually harassed me."
She recounted that he tried to push her inside the bathroom while telling her he wanted to have sex with her. As she pushed him, he punched her in the face. She said that he was very drunk.
She walked outside and called the police who arrived and apprehended the defendant."The other accused then came and threatened that he would kill me. He also told me that he would sexually assault me and my mother. He also verbally abused me. I got afraid he would hurt me as he was also drunk. The man was upset because I reported his friend to the police," she told the prosecutor.
She called the police again and the same police officers arrived. "I saw him forcibly pushing the officers and causing one of them to hit the wall. I also heard him verbally abusing them."
A police corporal said they received a report about an attempted rape in a villa.
"We had just placed one of the defendants inside the patrol car when we heard the victim screaming. We then arrested another man after he tried to assault the victim. That man was drunk and resisted being taken into custody. He pushed us and insulted us but we brought him under control and took him inside the patrol car."
The two defendants, who have been detained, will be sentenced on May 28.
