Drunk driver to pay Dh200,000 blood money for causing death of a person in UAE

Abu Dhabi - Official court documents stated that the crash, which involved four vehicles, occurred on one of the roads in the UAE.

A drunk-driver, who was convicted of causing death of a person in a car crash, has been jailed for a year and fined Dh15,000. The man will also pay blood money amounting to Dh200,000 to the victim's family.
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld earlier rulings by lower courts that handed the sentences to the Arab man, after he was found guilty of violating traffic rules and causing death of a man in a road accident.
Official court documents stated that the crash, which involved four vehicles, occurred on one of the roads in the UAE.
The defendant, who was apparently driving under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his car and rammed into four other vehicles, according to prosecutors. One of the persons in the vehicles died after sustaining serious injuries.
The crash also caused serious damages to the four vehicles but the rest of the occupants escaped with minor injuries.
Prosecutors had charged the Arab man with causing an accident that killed a person, driving under the influence of alcohol and violating other traffic rules.
Both the first instance and appellant courts had earlier handed the sentences to the motorist- including a jail term, paying fines and blood money to the victim's family, after he was found guilty on all counts. His driving licence was also suspended for a period of six months.
The man challenged the sentences to UAE's top court which has maintained the rulings by the lower courts.
