A man has been charged at a Dubai court after he allegedly sexually harassed a woman and exposed himself in front of her.
The 30-year-old Egyptian defendant, a clerk, denied a sexual harassment charge at the Court of First Instance.
The incident was reported on September 15 at Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a 28-year-old Ukrainian resident, said the incident took place when she went to a building near her workplace after 5pm.
"I went there to use the washroom since the one in our building was closed for maintenance."
She saw a man - the accused in the lift - and then spotted him at the women's toilet.
"I asked him what he was doing there but he stayed silent, nodded his head and jumped up and down. I pushed him away and went to the lift but he followed me," she said, during the public prosecution investigation.
The woman had to walk out of the lift and tell him she would call the police after he groped her while exposing himself.
"He even followed me even to the stairs and kissed me and touched me inappropriately. He grabbed me by the neck and I had to grab his hand and bite it to stop him from hugging me. He fled the scene when I screamed," she recounted to the prosecutor.
A police sergeant said they received the report after 6pm. "After talking to the woman and checking the CCTV footage, we tracked down the suspect to an office in Al Muraqqabat at 3pm on September 25."
The defendant admitted to officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police station that he tried to initiate a conversation with the complainant then hugged her, grabbed her hand and tried to make her enter the lift with him.
The incident was captured on surveillance camera and the footage is used by the public prosecution as evidence.
The complainant identified the accused three times among other suspects at the police station.
A ruling will be issued on December 27.
