A cleaner was sentenced to six months in jail by a Dubai court on Monday for molesting a six-year-old girl.
According to public prosecution records, the 30-year-old Bangladeshi man took the Indian girl to the lift of her residence where he kissed and hugged her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance ordered that the cleaner be deported after completing his jail term. The incident dates back to and prior to March 7 and was reported to Al Qusais police station.
The girl's father, an Indian flight attendant, said that at 2:30am on March 7, his daughter told him she wanted to sleep next to him. "She said she felt scared and did not want that the accused come to clean our house again."
The father recounted that the defendant kissed and hugged his daughter on February 24 and February 28 as he took her inside the lift without any need for it. "He would take her to the lift as she played with neighbours' children without any need for it. I checked the surveillance cameras and saw the defendant calling my girl to come to him and then taking her away.
"When I confronted the accused with that, he claimed it was a joke and confessed he did a mistake and asked to be forgiven," the father told the prosecutor.
The girl said that the defendant took her twice inside the lift where he kissed and hugged her. She told her father and asked him not to let him come to their house again to clean it.
A policeman said they went to the girl's father place after 6:00pm on March 7 after they received the report. "We checked the cameras that captured the incident."
The defendant has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days from the issuance date.
