Four men have been charged with attempted murder and robbery at the Dubai Court of First Instance after they allegedly tried to kill a 53-year-old Indian employee at a company.
Prosecutors accused the three Afghans and a Pakistani, aged between 20 and 27, of stabbing the victim multiple times in the chest while gagging him with a towel. They then managed to rob silver plates worth Dh24,000 from the safe of the technical services company. The incident took place on February 18 this year in Naif.
The accused have been placed in detention.
During the public prosecution investigation, the victim, who works as a carpenter, recounted how the thieves stormed into the office at 1:30pm on the day of incident. "I heard knocking on the door and also the bell ringing. The moment I opened the door, two men barged in. They gagged me and I got stabbed in the chest and neck. I collapsed and as I tried to stand up, one of them tried to stab me again. I got a hand injury when I grabbed the knife. After that, I passed out."
A policeman told the prosecutor that the main defendant confessed they had planned the robbery in advance and purchased two knives and a duct tape. They had gone on February 13 to the company in Al Nakheel but did not try to go inside after they heard a noise.
One of the accomplices had been there before. When they visited the place again on February 18, they gagged the victim with a towel so he could not scream for help and stabbed him, while making away with the silver plates.
The trial will continue on August 26.
