Trio would allegedly threaten unsuspecting victims with travel ban.

An employee of the UAE's Ministry of Interior has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing residents into paying money by threatening to add their names to a 'wanted' list.

In a press statement on Monday, the ministry said the suspect - an Emirati - had teamed up with another Emirati and an Indian to carry out the crime.

The trio would allegedly threaten to add unsuspecting victims' names to the 'wanted list' which would supposedly result in a travel ban or prevent them from getting visas.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, took to Twitter to share details about the arrest. "A Ministry of Interior employee has been arrested on charges of corruption. There is no place for corruption in our institutions that are based on the principles of serving the country and society with sincerity and honesty. There is no place for the corrupt among us. All legal measures will be taken against the arrested employee," he tweeted.
