The first race of the season in Ajman has kicked off in the Masfout mountains of the emirate at 7am today. Around 300 runners are currently participating in the 4.5km Masfout Trail Run that is open to people of all age groups.
The run is hosted by the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) in the scenic Masfout mountains and is being organised by Al Qudra Sports Management, along with the support of the Municipality and Planning Department, the General Directorate of Civil Defence Ajman, and Amina Hospital – Ajman.
The race is the first sporting activity in 2021 and being held as a part of community races launched by Ajman Tourism to reinforce Ajman’s position as a prominent sports and tourist destination, locally and internationally.
Open for both professionals and amateurs 18 years of age or older, the 4.5 km race includes the following four categories: Emiratis – men/women, open category – men/women.
The race is being hosted keeping Covid-19 precautionary and safety measure in place, including obtaining negative Covid-19 test results prior to participation, temperature checks for all participants, wearing masks and gloves during the race, and ensuring social distancing.
Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, ATDD Director General, said, “We continue to host various entertainment and sports events that contribute to building more confidence in Ajman’s tourism offerings. We will be hosting more activities throughout the year as we continue to develop the emirate’s tourism sector and enhance Ajman’s position as a prominent tourist destination locally, regionally and internationally.”
Masfout is Ajman’s very own hidden gem, which is known among the locals for its higher altitude compared to surrounding cities. The rocky mountains in the region offer a picturesque setting for picnics and family gatherings.
Masfout’s calm wilderness is considered an ideal setting for mountain hikers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Its strategic geographical location makes it easily accessible from various routes such as Dubai-Hatta road or Sharjah-Kalba road.
