The Dubai Police arrested a 25-year-old Arab man for killing an American businessman, NGD, of Arab origin, within four hours after the crime was reported.

The Al Muraqqabat Police Station received a call from the nephew of the businessman stating that he was unable to contact his uncle who was visiting the country, said Major General Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police.

A police team swung into action and started gathering information about the businessman's whereabouts, he added.

Investigations revealed that the businessman had visited the UAE frequently and been here for long periods of time. He used to stay at different hotels. The police were able to zero in on the hotel where the businessman had put up last, Al Mansouri said.

"Our teams had got legal search warrant as they opened the hotel room where the businessman was staying," the top cop pointed out, adding his body was found in a corner. The man was apparently battered to death and had been dead for about 48 hours, the probe suggested.

Lt Colonel Adel Al Joker, director of CID at the Dubai Police, said that the police launched a manhunt for the murderer. And within four hours, the teams -- using artificial intelligence techniques at the data analysis centre -- identified the killer and his nationality. The killer turned out to be a 25-year-old Arab visitor who had accompanied the businessman to his hotel room. The police teams immediately fanned out and were able to nab the man at his residence.

During investigation, the suspect admitted that he had accompanied the businessman to his hotel room. He told the police that he hit him on his head with a wooden plank while escaping with the victim's wallet.

The man also confessed to having sought help from his friend, another Arab, to withdraw cash using the stolen ATM card of the businessman.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution in Dubai.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, appreciated the data analysis centre at the general department of criminal investigation for using the latest technologies and systems that helped identify the killer and his arrest in record time.
