The New Year's Eve (NYE) festivities in Dubai that saw over 1 million people remained free of even a single traffic accident, the police have said. "No accidents or injuries or security breaches were recorded despite the large number of NYE revellers," said Brigadier-General Abdullah Al Ghaithi, director of security and emergencies.
He hailed the cooperation between the 4,000 officials from Dubai government departments and private entities who ensured the success of the festivities.
He explained that the events committee had "exerted a lot of efforts" to educate the public about ways to reach the vantage points to view the record-breaking Burj Khalifa laser light show and other venues to watch fireworks.
The committee's members issued guidelines and advisories to residents on ways to avoid crowding. It was also prepared to provide emergency assistance, first-aid and logistical support those who needed it.
