The UAE's leaders have been celebrating Flag Day with a series of ceremonies and social media tweets.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the flag hoisting ceremony held at Union House in Dubai on Thursday.

A few minutes later, he posted a poem on his official Twitter handle:
A loose translation of the poem reads: "The flag is mine, Zayed had raised it high; we keep it safe, we live to raise it high; we protect it with our blood and never leave it; we plant it deep in our hearts."
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also tweeted on the occasion of Flag Day from his official handle.
The tweet reads: "We celebrate Flag Day along the length and breadth of this nation. We recognise the symbolism of the flag on this momentous occasion which signifies the unity of this nation's leadership and its greatness. This year it has an even greater significance, being the Year of Zayed. It brought us together under one word and one flag, the flag of unity."
He continued, "The flag is more than just a symbol of the state. It is a bond between a nation and its people. It inspires us to protect our nation and sacrifice for it. Our love for it will continue to bring us together as it lends us strength, pride, and a competitive spirit. Our happiness and progress is measured by our loyalty to the nation."

Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended a flag hoisting ceremony with officials from Sharjah Government Departments during the National Flag Day celebrations at Flag Island in Sharjah on Thursday.
