Major-General Humid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, chaired a meeting of the heads of police patrol divisions and instructed them to implement the Ruler’s decision with immediate effect.

Major-General Al Hudaidi said youth indulge in such negative practices, including fitting accessories to increase speed of vehicles and the volume of horns, more during summer time. They cause disturbance to residents and pose a risk to other motorists with their reckless driving, especially with their stunts on modified motorcycles.

He said that the Ruler’s decision to completely stop those indulging in such behaviour also gives the police full powers to impound the vehicles permanently.

“There will be no place to retreat or sympathy and justification, regardless of the nature and category of people involved in such practices,” he said, warning police officers against making any compromise or showing hesitation in implementing the instructions strictly. He hailed the efforts of the Traffic and Patrols Department which responded within an hour of the Ruler’s instructions and launched a crackdown resulting in the seizure of a large number of vehicles causing disturbance in just one day. He, however, did not give the exact number of vehicles impounded.

The police chief confirmed that the patrols and other departments concerned will continue to monitor the roads and residential localities and catch errant motorists.

The meeting resulted in a series of steps to eliminate such negative practices and prevent disturbance in areas.
