The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has started the final maintenance phase of the Intersection-4, known as the Sharjah International Airport Bridge, on the arterial Sharjah-Dhaid road.
The road works on the direction from the Sharjah International Airport to the Qaraen area will continue for 25 days and will be finished by the end of this month, according to a senior official.
Eng Suleiman Al Hajiri, Director General RTA Sharjah for roads affairs, said the bridge expansion joints will be replaced whereas the damaged asphalt patches will be repaired. "The road tiles will be replaced as well whereas the concrete structure of the bridge has already been maintained."
The side iron barriers have been replaced with galvanised aluminium while the whole area has been repainted with new road signs, Al Hajiri underlined. "The concrete wall and columns holding the bridge up were repainted, and the plastic poles were replaced as well."
The bridge has been repainted after a layer of insulants was laid down to prevent water leak, and protect the bridge against water and moisture.
Al Hajiri said the project in pursuance to the instructions of directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, includes three lanes.
Urging cautious driving, he said motorists should take alternative roads to avoid the rush until the end of the project. "All road projects are being carried out as per strict schedules for public convenience."
"The authority is dedicated to improve the quality of roads to cope with the underway plans for urban development and economic and tourism, as well as the steady increase of population and the movement of transport."
