When the Sharjah Police patrol saw a 12-year-old boy dangling precariously from the window of a building in Khor Fakkan, they were alarmed and used loud speaker to warn him to be careful, but he didn't respond.
It was then that the police swung into action to rescue the kid. They rushed into the building, went up to the boy's apartment and managed to lift and pull him inside the room with the help of his father who was at home at the time.
The police said that they found out that the boy had a disability - he was hearing impaired and used sign language to communicate. "While we were patrolling the area, we saw the boy in a dangerous situation. Half of his body was outside the window and the other half inside. We used loud speaker to warn him, but he didn't respond and so, we had to intervene quickly. It was some divine power that saved him," the police said.

The father told the police that he was in the Majlis and didn't see his son going into one of the rooms to look out of the window. The police cautioned the father and asked him to be extra vigilant. They instructed him to ensure his safety by keeping a constant watch on his movements in the house.
15 kids fall to their deaths in 3 years
A top Sharjah Police official underlined that negligence was the main cause behind majority of children's fall from their apartment's balconies and windows.
As many as 15 children died due to fall from buildings in the last three years. The victims were between the ages of 2 and 10, he pointed out.
"A total of 18 accidents involving kids falling from balconies were registered during the past three years and 15 children lost their lives. One of the survivors is paralysed while another is still receiving treatment in the ICU and the third kid's health condition is stable now," said the police official.
The highest number of fatal falls happened in 2016 when seven children died.
In 2017, four fatal falls were recorded across different areas of the emirate. Last year, three children plunged to their deaths from high-rise buildings.
A boy fell from the 29th floor of the tower in Al-Majaz area in Sharjah. An African girl fell off from the ninth floor of the balcony of an apartment in Al Tawoun. In an incident that happened last December, a seven-year-old Arab girl died after falling from the balcony of her family's home on the fifth floor in the residential tower in Al Mussala area.
Drop in cases due to awareness
Police pointed out that such incidents had recorded a significant decline recently due to awareness campaigns organised by the Ministry of Interior. The sustained drives educated the masses about the dangers of leaving their kids unattended and the importance to keep a watchful eye on them.
The campaign also advised residents to seal the windows if they aren't being used, installing of metal rods and railings in the balconies and avoid keeping furniture, such as tables and seats, near the windows or in the balconies.
