Sharjah - Investigations have revealed that the woman was crossing the road from a non-designated area.

A 38-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a speeding car ran over her in Sharjah early on Wednesday. The Iranian teacher was crossing a road in Al Tawoon area when she was run over, the police said.

The 37-year-old Emirati driver has been detained by the police.

A police official said they were notified about the accident at 5.48am. A team of patrols and paramedics rushed the woman to Al Qasimi Hospital, where she has been admitted to the intensive care unit. The woman is said to be in a critical state.

Investigations have revealed that the woman was crossing the road from a non-designated area. Additionally, the motorist was speeding and "not paying attention on the road", the police said.
