Sharjah starts demolishing illegal structures in Al Dhaid

Sharjah - The municipality has also started restoring Al Dhaid Fort and other important structures in the area.

Authorities have begun demolishing illegal labour accommodations and dilapidated buildings built around Sharjah's Al Dhaid Oasis. The move is in response to directives issued by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Mussahah Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Dhaid Municipality, said the oasis includes sites of historical importance such as Al Dhaid Fort and Falaj Al Shariah. The aim is to nominate the site that has forts and other historical buildings to the list of Unesco heritage sites.
The municipality has also started restoring Al Dhaid Fort and other important structures in the area.
"The civic body has completed all legal and administrative formalities to raze the illegal structures that have come up around the oasis. In coordination with the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, we have disconnected the power from all buildings and accommodations being occupied illegally by workers and bachelors in the area. It is expected that the area would be cleaned up by the end of this week," said Al Tunaiji.
The municipality also plans to prepare the sites for hosting traditional activities.
