Sharjah intercity buses to have Wifi, CCTV cameras, LED screens

Sharjah - The Roads and Transport Authority, Sharjah, in a bid to meet the pressing demand and give a different experience to its passengers, has added seven high-quality buses, worth Dh3.5 million to its now 135-bus intercity fleet.

Passengers on Sharjah intercity public buses can now enjoy a more convenient shuttle service with all new buses being fitted with additional safety and entertainment options.

The Roads and Transport Authority, Sharjah, in a bid to meet the pressing demand and give a different experience to its passengers, has added seven high-quality buses, worth Dh3.5 million to its now 135-bus intercity fleet.

Last year, 39 intercity public buses joined the service, and RTA Sharjah is now in the process of getting more private buses to handle the rush and commute up to 17,500 passengers daily, especially during holidays and weekends.
All the new buses have been fitted with internal and external CCTV cameras, as well as internal and external LED screens, said Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Roads and Transport Authority Sharjah for Transport Affairs, elaborated. "There is also a special camera for alerting the bus driver of the safety space when reversing or driving ahead. The new buses have Wifi, high quality air conditioners, spacious lockers, and many other mechanical and electric options to give passengers, especially special needs people, a happy convenient trip."

The buses are also equipped with an advanced alarm system and quality sensors to avoid any unexpected closure of the doors, he stated. Al Jarwan said the new 37 to 65 seat shuttle buses will be operated on medium long trips, particularly between Sharjah and Ajman.
"The King Long Chinese buses, the fourth batch so far, have been specially made and provided with specific contents to safely cover a distance of 2,000km every day, and go with the latest safety international standards."
RTA Sharjah is now running 16 intercity public buses, which all start from Al Jubail Bus Station, opposite the Fish Market, he added. "We have launched two new routes this year; one connects Sharjah with Al Ain and the other links Sharjah with the Dubai International Airport, Terminal 2."
The ticket for short trips ranges from Dh5 to Dh20 whereas passengers on long trips pay Dh20 to Dh30, he said. "The tariff is decided as per the distance of the trip," he said, noting that they have provided 108 stops for intercity bus passengers.
Jarwan said much attention is paid to qualifying and training drivers, and equipping them with the latest instructions on a regular basis to boost their performance. "This is one of the main reasons behind RTA Sharjah's ever growing popularity."
