The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has developed a major road extending from Intersection-5 to Al Rahmaniya area worth Dh28 million.
Fatima Al Kitbi, director of road projects at the SRTA, said the project has been completed ahead of schedule. "The new road is expected to meet the needs of the residents and boost economic growth."
The two-direction road connects the Rahmaniya area to Al Dhaid through Intersection-5, she said.
"Each direction consists of two lanes which are 7.3 metres wide. The 3.4-metre-long road includes asphalt head shoulders, each with a width of 2.5 metres. It also includes 1.2-metre-wide internal shoulders."
A middle island with metal barriers was also built on the road, she added.
"The SRTA has also introduced some amendments to the square adjacent to Intersection-5 and developed a new square at the intersection close to Al Rahmaniya area to curb traffic congestion.
"The road works included a number of development services, including the protection of the gas lines intersecting the road. The road has also been fenced to prevent stray animals from crossing," she said.
