A 34-year-old Asian man is fighting for his life after his co-worker slit his throat with a knife following a heated argument at a fish shop where they were employed in Al Madam area in Sharjah on Saturday.
The victim is receiving treatment at Al Dhaid Hospital's ICU. The assailant has been arrested and is being interrogated by CID at Al Madam police station.
According to the police, a verbal duel broke out between the two workers in the shop. The victim wanted to go to the mosque to pray, but his colleague asked him to stay in the shop for some time to complete the orders of the customers as he said he could not do it without his help.
A heated exchange of words ensued, which turned foul and ugly. The assailant went into the shop's kitchen and came out with a sharp knife used to cut fish. He stabbed the victim several times in the back and shoulder. When he continued to resist, the assailant slit his throat.
One of the customers - who stepped into the shop - intervened and prevented the assailant from killing the victim. He took the knife away from the man's hand and informed the police and the national ambulance. The police team from Al Madam police station arrived at the scene and arrested the assailant, who later confessed to the crime.
An official from Al Dhaid Hospital said that the victim was brought there in an ambulance and immediately rushed to the ICU due to excessive bleeding. A special team is taking care of the victim, who has undergone multiple operations. He has got a deep cut in the neck and several stabs in different parts of his body. The victim is currently in ICU under artificial respiration and round-the-clock medical observation, he said.
