A 30-year-old Emirati died after he lost control over his 4WD vehicle, which then swerved and crashed into a street light on the divider and burst into flames. The motorist was speeding when the accident happened opposite the Tasjeel Auto Village on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road on Sunday afternoon.
The police rushed the man to Al Qassimi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lt.-Col Mohammed Al Allai, director of traffic and patrols department, Sharjah Police, said "speeding and inattentive driving was to blame for the horrific accident". The police were notified about the crash at 1.30pm. Firefighters dispatched to the site doused the blaze, after which the man's body was retrieved.
The police cleared the site and reopened the part of the road that had to be closed after the crash.
