Two people died of suffocation after a massive fire broke out at a villa in Sharjah's Maysaloon area on Monday evening.
On being alerted of the blaze at the operations room, the Sharjah Civil Defence immediately dispatched firefighters and rescue units, who reached the site within five minutes. According to emergency officials, the fire also gutted a neighbouring house.
An Asian woman and her child received serious burns and were given medical attention. An elderly resident was rushed to the hospital as she was in a critical condition.
Firefighters from Saman and Al Mina douses the blaze and prevented it from spreading further.
An official at the scene said that more than 30 people were living in the house which was sublet to them without the knowledge of the landlord.
