The Sharjah Police started investigation after a 25-year-old Egyptian fell off the third floor of a building on King Faisal road in Al Majaz 2 area and injured severely on Wednesday. He is fighting for his life in the ICU of Al Qasimi Hospital.
The man, identified as M.Y.I. who works in a restaurant, received serious injuries in various parts of his body due to the strong impact of the fall. According to sources, the police received a call about the incident at the operation room around 4pm from a passerby who found the man lying on the floor. A team of officers from the police patrol, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), crime scene experts and the National Ambulance reached the site in less than five minutes.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the man fell off the balcony of flat No 302, which is occupied by some African men and women. The police held the tenants of the apartments, including three African women and an Egyptian, for interrogation to find out the reason of the fall.
The case has been referred to Al Buhaira police station.
Speaking to Khaleej Times at the crime scene, Emad Mustafa, an Egyptian who lives in the same building, said that he got down of his company bus in front of the building when he saw the man lying in a pool of blood in front of the building. He immediately called the police to inform about the Incident. "I didn't see how the man fell but saw him lying on the floor. My roommate, who is in police custody for interrogation, told me that he saw the injured man hanging from the balcony and two African men holding him while he was pleading for help. But he was not sure if he saw them pushing him to fall."
Mohammed Huleel, another Egyptian, said that the injured man was not a resident of the building. "He may have come to these African people's apartment to deliver food as he was working in a restaurant. I'm not sure of the purpose of his visit to the apartment. I saw one of the two Africans holding him in the balcony when I and my friend were trying to rush to the apartment to save him from falling. However, we are not sure if they pushed him down or just released his hand."
The Bangladeshi watchman of the building, which is occupied mostly by bachelors of various nationalities, fled the place and switched off his mobile phone after the incident.
Another resident of the building, Mohammed Hamoour, told Khaleej Times: "An Egyptian man came to our room and asked if we were Egyptians. When I told him yes, he said a friend of him was locked up in a room in the apartment of these Africans and he wanted my help to release him. When we decided to go help the Egyptian man in the apartment of the Africans, we heard a noise outside the building and later discovered that the man had fell from the third floor."
