Illegal vendors arrested for selling fake coupons, vouchers in UAE

Sharjah - The police received a number of complaints about these vendors who walked around residential areas.

The Sharjah Police have arrested 31 illegal vendors and door-to-door salesmen in various residential areas of the emirate.
The arrests were made during a crackdown launched by the police in response to a Khaleej Times report on mobile vendors who knock at doors to offer fake discount coupons and goods.
A top official with the Sharjah Police said that besides the Khaleej Times report, they also received a number of complaints about these vendors who walk around in residential areas.
The police also launched the crackdown as part of its efforts to preserve the safety of the residents and to reduce unlawful behaviour and practices that affect stability. The campaign is also aimed at controlling street vendors at traffic junctions who display goods for sale to motorists.
He explained the campaign was launched by teams comprising officers from the Traffic and Patrol Department and the Criminal Investigation Department of Sharjah Police. It resulted in the arrest of 31 mobile vendors of various Asian nationalities, who were selling water bottles and fake goods at a number of traffic intersections on various roads in the city. It also arrested some salesmen who sold fake coupons and goods in various residential areas. "They did not have licences to do such sales," he added.
He urged the public not to deal with mobile vendors, and to support the police by reporting them and warned that many of these vendors are associated with crimes and violations.
