The Sharjah Police on Wednesday (July 10) confiscated 1,393 motorbikes and bicycles during their intensified campaign against reckless riders.
Lt-Col Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrol department of the Sharjah Police, said the crackdown aims to ensure road users' safety and reduce accidents caused by bike riders' violations.
He pointed out that a number of them were recently caught flouting several traffic regulations. Some were found riding their bikes against the traffic, while others were overloading their motorcycles, causing them to lose balance.
"In addition to the dangers they pose, reckless riders cause inconvenience to people in various residential areas," said Lt-Col Al Naqbi.
The officer underlined that as the campaign continues, violators shall be arrested and motorists will be educated on the dangers of not complying with traffic rules.
Lt-Col Al Naqbi said the Sharjah Police would also spread their awareness messages on social media to reach as many people as possible.
