Ras Al Khaimah police successfully helped a Moroccan mother who developed labour pains amid the New Year's Eve celebrations at Al Marjan island where thousands of people were gathered to watch the world record fireworks.
A special traffic patrol opened the road and led the national ambulance which was carrying the pregnant mother out of the long line of vehicles in the area.
Brigadier Abdjullah Ali Menakhas, acting director general of the police operations with RAK police, said the mother, identified as Sauad was taken to the hospital in time.
"She safely gave birth to her baby boy despite the New Year's eve traffic when thousands of people from across the country flocked to the Al Marjan Island to watch the fireworks."
Organised by Marjan and Grucci, the Ras Al Khaimah New Year fireworks, which was 13 minutes and 20 seconds long, clinched two Guinness World Records for the 'Longest chain of fireworks' and the 'Longest straight line of fireworks'.
The Moroccan mother and her Iraqi husband, Mohammed Ali, extended their appreciation to the RAK police for driving her safely to the hospital.
"We feel lucky to find that 'miraculous help' amongst that sea of vehicles and people, but thankfully the policemen, particularly the traffic patrols were a great help," they said. They also mentioned that they named their baby boy Sultan.
