Two inmates in Ras Al Khaimah have been placed under 'electronic house arrest', as the Ministry of Interior - represented by the RAK Police - implements an innovative tracking system.
"The jail terms of the two suspects have been extended using this police tracking system," sources said.
The inmates' movement will be monitored through a device, which can precisely detect the geographical location of the person wearing it.
"The RAK Police are to replace the regular custody with this smart house arrest system," sources said. Through the system, criminal enforcement authorities will be able to track a suspect under investigation, an accused on trial, or a convict serving a sentence.
The UAE Federal Law No. 17 of 2018 introduced 'electronic tagging' to bring about significant changes to the country's criminal proceedings by implementing innovative technologies.
