Firefighters have managed to put out a huge fire that erupted in two makeshift houses at the Awafi heritage area in Ras Al Khaimah. On being alerted about the fire, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched three firefighting teams, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.

"The firefighters put out the flames and prevented it from spreading to other makeshift houses at the popular site," a police source said.
Investigations show that the fire started in some dry leaves and waste close to the houses, he added. "The houses were destroyed in the fire, but no casualties were reported."
The site has been handed over to the bodies concerned for further investigation.
