The northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), which has built the world's longest zipline on Jebel Jais mountain, will add two more ziplines by the end of July this year, a senior government official said.
"Since the launch of world's longest zipline in January, we have seen over 5,000 visitors and we aim to receive 200,000 visitors by the end of the year. Because of the demand, we are going to launch 2 additional ziplines and it will be total of 4. It will increase our expectations from 200,000 visitors to 400,000 a year. The cables are getting ready in Mexico and we will receive them by end of May; then the installation process will start," said Haitham Mattar, CEO, RAK Tourism Development Authority.
"We are also launching mountain biking routes and the first-of-its-kind 36 luxury camps which will open by 2020. The luxury camp on Jebel Jais is 650-metre high and it will be tented villas, offering accommodation to families and couples and it will have an outdoor spa, outdoor yoga, river pools and activities for people of all ages," he said.
Ras Al Khaimha last year saw 940,000 visitors and Mattar expects these numbers to cross 1 million mark this year.
To attract one million visitors by end of 2018, the emirate has tied up with Emirates, flydubai and tour operators. The emirate is also focusing on key markets such as Russia, Germany, India, and other European markets.
Ras Al Khaimah houses 5,500 hotel rooms while another 6,000 rooms are in the pipelines with brands such as Rove, Marriott, InterContinental and Millennium are in the process of opening doors in the northern emirate, he said.
