The Ras Al Khaimah Police has installed 86 radars across the internal roads and highways of the emirate this year so far, according to a top official.
Colonel Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police, said: "The sophisticated radars not only detect speeding drivers, but also nab those who fail to stick to the lane rule, ignore safety distance, swerve or overtake in a poor way that pose a risk to road users' safety."
Col Al Naqbi added: "The radars also include two sniper radars that cover four to six lanes at a time, and can click front and rear images using laser technology. These advanced radars can record different types of traffic violations at the same time."
However, the fines, black points, and impoundment are determined by the traffic authorities concerned. As per the UAE Federal Traffic Law, fines between Dh300 and Dh3,000, along with black traffic points are slapped on speeding drivers. "This is besides up to two-month vehicle impoundment depending on the speed limit violation," he added.
Failing to observe lane rule draws a fine of Dh1,500 and six black points for heavy vehicle against Dh400 for light vehicle. "Should any driver pulled over at the yellow box, he or she shall be penalized with a fine of Dh500."
