Ras Al Khaimah Police to carry out raids on abandoned vehicles

Ras Al Khaimah - A large number of various types of vehicles have been reportedly left unattended or abandoned on public roads.

The Ras Al Khaimah Police will launch a 10-day operation to carry out raids on abandoned vehicles starting today. It is aimed at boosting safety and security of the emirate as well as keeping intact its aesthetic image. 
A large number of various types of vehicles have been reportedly left unattended or abandoned on public roads, squares, and residential areas, said Captain Rashid Balhoon, head of the raids.
"Leaving a vehicle unattended for a long time not only tarnishes the image of the city but also turns it into a hideout for criminals and gives rise to thriving illegal practices."
Stickers will be first pasted on these abandoned vehicles, giving their owners a grace period of 10 days to remove them, he pointed out.
"If they fail to do so, the vehicle will be impounded and released only upon payment of the due fine."
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director of the central operations of RAK Police, said abandoned vehicles used to be the responsibility only of the RAK civic body. "That is not the case anymore as the police have chipped in and held a number of meetings with all the entities concerned to put an end to this negative phenomenon that poses a grave risk to public safety and security."
The police have also launched a special campaign to raise public awareness about the abandoned vehicles, he added.
"Some people abuse the spaces available in front of shops and parks while leaving their vehicles unattended. Some even offer their vehicles for sale at these places. These will be removed as it is a breach of law," he said.
