RAK police nab duo behind Dh750,000 gold shop heist

Ras Al Khaimah - Jewellery worth Dh700,000 and  Dh50,000 cash were robbed 

Two Africans who stole jewellery worth Dh700,000 and Dh50,000 cash from a gold shop were nabbed within 48 hours by the Ras Al Khaimah Police.
The teams of criminal investigation department (CID) managed to get back Dh50,000 the duo robbed from the shop, said Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of the RAK Police.
The CID of RAK Police were first alerted about the robbery when the anti-theft alarm of the gold shop - in the busy Al Nakheel area - that was connected with the central operations room went off.
"The CID patrols rushed to the scene in record time and discovered that the door of the gold shop was broken, and an unestimated amount of jewels and cash were robbed."
The police collected information and evidence at the crime site, said Brigadier Abdullah Ali Menakhas, director of CID, RAK Police.
"It was discovered that the unidentified robbers had stolen jewellery worth Dh700,000 and Dh50,000 in cash."
A search team was formed and it started a manhunt for the criminals, he said.
Intensive probe helped the CID unravel the identity of a man who had apparently dropped and picked up the robbers at the shop. He was tracked down and nabbed in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain with the help of law enforcement bodies there.
When confronted with the evidence, the man admitted that he had taken the two robbers - both of his nationality - to the gold shop and back against a certain amount of money, and knew nothing about the crime, Brig. Menakhas said.
The man first denied knowing about the robbers' hideout, but later guided the police to it. "The hideout was raided and one of the suspects arrested," he said.
"After he was detained, the nabbed robber led the police to the hideout of his accomplice."
Both the robbers admitted to their crime, following which they were referred to the public prosecution. 
"All companies, shops, and offices are urged to tightly lock their properties, never leave any cash behind, and report any suspicious activities," the CID director said.
