Nine Asian residents stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court for stoning an African prostitute to death.
As per court records, the RAK public prosecution also charged two African women with prostitution. In addition, two African men were accused of assisting prostitution activities, while three others were charged with trespassing into others' properties.
The accused Asians denied murder charges, while the other women admitted to practising prostitution against Dh50 per person.
The two African men admitted to working as pimps for Dh10 per person.
One of the prostitutes told the court that she was with the victim when a number of Asians assaulted her. She yelled at them and defended her friend.
However, she could not tell who exactly killed her because of the darkness, but she identified two of them who were in the dock.
Investigations showed that the victim had an argument with one of the Asians against the money he was supposed to pay.
A number of Asian residents appeared at the scene and started stoning the victim, who sustained serious injuries and bled excessively.
She was rushed to the emergency section of the nearest hospital, but declared dead one hour after being admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital.
The court ordered adjournment of the case to August 6 to hear the defence pleading.
