Praveen PA, the husband of the 25-year-old Indian woman - Divya Praveen - killed in a RAK road crash on Monday, paid Dh200,000 blood money to the heirs of the deceased following the attorney general's order.
The man had admitted to having dozed off at the wheel which caused the accident. He also paid a Dh2,500 fine that was slapped on him.
Pushpan Govindan, a social worker with Indian Relief Committee in Ras Al Khaimah, told Khaleej Times that the husband was kept in police custody for four hours. "Praveen was released after paying Dh200,000 blood money and Dh2,500 fine."
Reghu Mash, a volunteer with the Indian Relief Committee, said the husband's friends and relatives arranged the money and paid it in court.
"The man and the couple's two-year-old son, Daksh, accompanied the victim's body on an Air India Express flight that departed from Dubai International Airport to Calicut Airport in Kerala, around 2am on Wednesday."
Mash said a lawsuit will be filed in court so that the insurance company pays the blood money.
"The police report will be submitted to the court to order the insurance company to pay the blood money and any compensation that is due."
The accident took place at Khiran area when Praveen lost control over the steering wheel and rammed into a lamppost on the roadside as the family was returning home from Sharjah to Ras Al Khaimah.
"The husband, who works with the Hutchison Ports RAK, and the little boy, who was tightly buckled up in the rear seat, had a narrow escape," sources said. The victim died while being taken to the hospital.
