An Omani citizen in his fifties was killed in a run-over accident on the Urabi road in Ras Al Khaimah on Eid Al Fitr night.
Col Waleed Kanfash, chief of Maamura police station, said the motorist involved in the accident proved to be a 16-year-old GCC citizen. "The victim was ran over by a speeding car. Later, it was found that the driver was not licensed for driving," he added.
The central Operations room, alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, a national ambulance, paramedic and rescue teams to the site. "The victim was rushed to the emergency section of the Saqr Hospital on Tuesday around 12.35am."
The victim was in a critical condition, according to the medical sources with the hospital.
"He was declared dead shortly after being admitted to the hospital because of the serious injuries he sustained all over his body and excessive bleeding."
The police said the driver fled the scene after the accident, but later surrendered to the RAK Police around 1.40am on the same night.
The accident file has been referred to the bodies concerned for legal action as due.
