The Ras Al Khaimah criminal court started hearing the case in which an Asian man is accused of killing his own cousin, who was also his co-worker.
As per court records, the suspect strangled the victim to death while he was sleeping in their labour camp, in a premeditated act.
The defence lawyer sought his client's exoneration based on the prosecution witnesses' contradicting statements regarding the colour of the cloth used in carrying out the killing.
The prosecution told the court that the accused and the victim used to have heated arguments arising from family disputes. The defendant had allegedly threatened the victim and insulted him one day.
Later, the victim's fellow workers saw him lying motionless in his bed and found he was dead.
The police, alerted of the suspicious death, launched investigations; forensic evidence showed that he had been strangled to death and the accused was apprehended soon.
The defence lawyer affirmed his innocence and requested the jury to have mercy on him.
The court adjourned the case to next month, for issuing its final verdict.
