Honours, praises for Emirati woman who saved burning driver
Ras Al Khaimah - She leapt out of her car with a friend's abaya and rushed to the man, putting out the flames and calming him down.
Saluting the lady's bravery, RAK civil defence director general Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi honoured Jawaher and her father at the headquarters of the department.
"What you have done Jawaher speaks volumes about kindness and truly reflects the human values of sacrifice, dignity and commitment," he said. "Your timely and swift action helped save the life of the driver on fire."
As an acknowledgement of her brave act, the RAK civil defence department has installed smoke detectors in her house. "This is the least we could do to thank your heroic act," Brig. Zaabi said.
Meanwhile, UAE interior minister Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also ordered to honour Jawaher.
The Ras Al Khaimah Police have already honoured Jawaher for her selfless action that saved a life. Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, deputy chief commandant of the RAK Police, met her and her father at the police headquarters and expressed appreciation for her quick thinking and promptness.
Khaleej Times readers, as well as the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi, have also commended Jawaher.
Among one such reader was Antoun Dagher, who said: "What a lovely wonderful lady you are Jawaher. What a brave soldier.."
The one who named you Jawaher was so right in doing so, he added. "You are much more valuable than a jewel; you are much more prized than diamonds. You are an angel who was sent by the God to rescue the life of the burning man."
"May God bless you and your family, we are all proud of you, the UAE is proud to have a daughter like you."
Hari Om Sharma, a KT reader, said Jawaher had done a splendid job towards humanity and is a great example for everyone to emulate and do best in their life. "May God bless her for her selfless service towards humanity." "Needless to say that she deserves a reward for her brave act of kindness."
The Emirati woman, who is originally based in Ajman, was on a visit to one of her friends at the Sheikh Khalifa hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, and spotted the burning driver while driving her way back home.
Jawaher leapt out of her car, took the abaya of her friend who was with her and asked her to stay inside, rushed to the burning man, put out the flames, while covering him with the abaya.
Having put out the fire, Jawaher calmed the driver down, telling him that the rescue teams will take care of him.
The police patrols, and ambulance and paramedics shortly arrived, and started dealing with the situation. They provided first aid to the driver, and rushed him to the hospital.
