Four hour-long rains lash parts of Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah - The four-hour long showers got the Emirati nationals and residents outdoors to enjoy the rain.

Heavy showers lashed the central and southern regions of the Ras Al Khaimah city late on Sunday.
According to residents and eye witnesses the areas most affected by the rains included Azan, Al Gheil, Wadi Al Eem, and Wadi Al Ees, 40km to the south of the RAK city.

The four-hour long showers got the Emirati nationals and residents outdoors to enjoy the rain.
Saeed Rashid, an Emirati, said that the heavy rains flooded the valleys of Azan, Al Gheil, Raqia, Wadi Al Eem, and Wadi Al Mawrad.

"The Wadi Al Eem dam has been entirely filled with water whereas the Azan Dam is half-filled."
Ahmed Al Mazrouie, one of the dignitaries in the region, said the heavy rains and good weather have attracted crowds of people and visitors from different areas to the region.

"People are busy taking photos and videos of the scenic surroundings particularly as the mercury levels have significantly come down."
RAK police has warned the public against venturing close to the  deep valleys and strong current areas. "Seafarers, beach and valley goers, and motorists need to be careful about the unstable weather."

"People living close to areas experiencing heavy rains and strong winds, are urged to be careful, and immediately call (072356611 - 072356600 - 072356998 - 072356999) in case of emergency."
The RAK Civil Defence Department has also warned nationals and residents against approaching the mountainous and steep valleys. "The heavy rains have flooded many valleys, particularly at the southern parts of the emirate," they said.
704 million gallons of rainwater collected in three days

Over 3.2 million cubic meters of rainwater, equal to 704 million gallons, was harvested in 25 dams in the UAE on 6th, 7th and 8th October, according to Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, the Under-Secretary of the Energy Ministry.
The rainwater was collected from 24 dams in the Central Region and one dam in the Eastern Region of the UAE.
The ministry urged visitors of dams and Wadis to exercise extreme caution.
