The Emirates Environmental Group held the 14th edition of the Clean Up UAE in the beautiful city of Ras Al Khaimah, on December 10 2015. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and motivation as 600 volunteers, equipped with bio-degradable trash bags, cotton re-usable gloves, caps and t-shirts, picked up trash one by one in a massive Clean Up drive that collected approximately 2 tonnes of waste at the beautiful wide expanse of the Al Jazeera, Al Hamra site.
The event in Ras Al Khaimah Clean Up was held in the presence of Shaikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, the President of the Department of Economic Development in Ras Al Khaimah. The event began with the hoisting of the Clean-Up UAE flag followed by the opening speech by Habiba Al Mar'ashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group, who welcomed all the participants and shared the details of the campaign.
In her opening statement Al Mar'ashi said "We have seen dedicated participation from organizations, governments, students, families and individuals every year and are glad to get such a great response. Together we can make a change."
The first session of Clean up UAE began in December 2002, and only included Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman. Over the years, popularity and prominence for this warm gesture has only increased.
Al Mar'ashi added "Despite starting off with humble beginnings I am proud to say that our campaign has grown exponentially over the years, this year we will record the highest ever participation of 125,000 volunteers".
