The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has ordered closure of a butchery at Al Nakheel area in Ras Al Khaimah for flouting health rules.
The butchery, as per a video footage that went viral on social media, was involved in importing meat from Oman in the boot of a four-wheel drive car, ignoring transport regulations.
The Ras Al Khaimah civic body verified the information and ordered closure of the butchery, according to Shaimaa Al Tunaiji, Acting Manager of the Public Health Department.
"The RAK Municipality has zero tolerance with such hazardous practices that pose a grave risk to public health."
A hefty fine shall be imposed on the owner of the butchery. "Meat has to be properly imported and transported in refrigerated vehicles to ensure their validity for human consumption."
The municipality had earlier shut down several food institutions for breaking rules, they added.
"Some have been warned of permanent closure and licence cancellation in case of repetition, as well as a hefty fine."
More inspection campaigns will be launched against institutions, mainly food and health entities, to ensure their compliance with set rules and regulations.
