The Ras Al Khaimah department of public works and services is carrying out 16 key projects in the emirate.
These include the maintenance of 5,000sqm of asphalt across the roads of the emirate, the construction of a new centre for animal care at the Red Island, and the development of key roundabouts, such as the Ship and Golf roundabouts.
The infrastructure and service projects are in line with the urban expansion plans of the emirate, according to Ahmed Al Hammadi, director-general of the department. "These projects will boost traffic flow, improve the image of the city and help meet the expansion of the emirate and its increasing population.
The roads that have undergone maintenance works include the arterial road starting from the Federal Electricity and Water Authority to the Customs Centre, he said. "All the internal yards and those surrounding the American University have been developed as well."
The department has also completed 80 per cent of the Martyrs Road that connects the Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah with Al Twain roundabout and leading to Fujairah.
