As many as 54 outlets were fined last month after an inspection of 1,388 food and health institutions, according to a senior official.

Shaimaa Al Tunaiji, acting manager of the public health department, said that staff inspectors carried out 361 inspection campaigns in August across the emirate.
Getting tougher on food and health establishments, the civic body has confiscated "145kg of cosmetic items and 363kg of food products that were found unfit for human consumption".
"Some outlets ignore repetitive warnings and are only concerned with their interests disregard of the impact of their unfit products on customers' health," she said.
Al Tunaiji added that none of the erring shops were shut down, but 65 of them were issued warning letters.
The municipality inspectors also impounded one vehicle, which was found to be selling food on a street in a non-designated area.
The official also urged the public not to entertain street vendors as they pose a grave risk to health of the people.
