A three-year-old Arab boy drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel villa in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday.
The boy, identified as Saif Mohammed Saeed, was on a trip with his family who came all the way from Abu Dhabi.
The father of the boy said the tragic incident happened when his children were playing alone in the villa. "They headed to the pool while I was in another part of the villa close to them," he said. All of a sudden, he said that he heard one of his children screaming. "I rushed to them and found my youngest son motionless in the pool."
The central operations room of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, alerted of the mishap, immediately dispatched an ambulance and paramedics to the site in a record time.
Kuram Majid, an eyewitness and teacher with the Ministry of Education, told Khaleej Times that he was walking along the beach with friends when he heard the screams of the mother, father and children.
"I ran into the villa and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on they boy. He was there with the boy until the ambulance arrived. "The mother and father were in grief, crying and shouting," he added.
The paramedics arrived and took the toddler to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital where he was pronounced dead. "His heart was not pulsing, and the medical team in the hospital emergency department failed revive him despite their repetitive attempts," medical sources told Khaleej Times.
A relative of the departed toddler said the boy had two sisters, 6 and 8, and a 10-year-old brother. "The sudden departure of the boy was a huge shock to the entire family."
The funeral prayer was performed for the boy after the Asr prayer in Abu Dhabi, he added. "Saif was then buried at Bani Yas Cemetery."
