A 24-year-old Emirati biker succumbed to fatal injuries after the motorbike he was riding rammed into a big pick-up vehicle on the Al Rams Road opposite the Interlock factory in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The central operations room of the RAK police, alerted of the mishap, immediately dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, rescue teams, paramedics, and civil defence teams to the site.
The victim, identified only as Ahmed Sultan, could not make it and died on the spot due to the impact of the collision, according to a senior police officer.
Lt-Col Ayman Al Ubad, chief of the Al Rams Police Station RAK, late on Wednesday said that they were alerted about the accident at around 1:40pm.
Initial enactment of the accident showed that the deceased was riding his bike in the correct lane heading from Al Rams area towards Shamal when he was surprised with a big pick-up vehicle taking a U-turn.
The 47-year-old erring driver, took a U-turn without making sure the road was clear, he stated.
The Emirati biker did not have enough time to avoid the terrible collision with the pick-up and died on the spot.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives as due, while the accident file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal action, he added.
All drivers are urged to be extra cautious and remain attentive on the road, and never ever take a U-turn or enter a road unless they make sure that it is clear.
Observing speed limit on internal roads and highways is also so critical, he underlined. Over speeding has been blamed in many deadly accidents.
