Two Emirati men managed to rescue a wheelchair-bound woman from a big fire that broke out in her house in Ras Al Khaimah. According to a top official, the two Emiratis, Jassim Al Zanati and Hassan Al Naqbi, "did not think twice" when they saw the flames coming out of the woman's house in the Fahleen area.
Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, director of the RAK civil defence department, said: "The duo rushed to the woman's room that was engulfed by flames and managed to rescue her."
Having been alerted of the fire, the civil defence dispatched firefighters, paramedics and rescue teams to the site. "To our surprise, the two Emiratis were already there at the burning house, and successfully managed to move her out to safety."
The firefighters put out the fire before it could spread to nearby houses, he said.
The department has honoured the two brave men for risking their lives and saving the woman.
