Two Asians died after the car they were travelling in flipped over several times as the driver lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road in Ras Al Khaimah.
Three other occupants in the same four-wheel-drive car were badly injured.
Lt Col Waleed Mohammed Kanfash, chief of the Maamura police station, said they were alerted early Tuesday morning about the accident.
"Traffic patrols, national ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams were dispatched to the site in record time."
Initial enactment of the accident suggested that speeding could be behind the accident, which took place at the busy business Nakheel area, he added.
"The driver of the vehicle, coming down from the RAK bridge, lost control over the steering wheel as the car veered off the road at the roundabout, and overturned several times."
The totally mangled car finally came to rest on the right side of the road island opposite the RAK civil defence department, Lt Col Kanfash added.
"The accident led to the death of two people and serious injuries to three passengers in the same car."
The injured trio was rushed to the hospital for treatment and medical care, while the bodies of those killed were shifted to the morgue of the same hospital.
The accident file was referred to the RAK traffic prosecution for legal procedures. "Speeding is one of the main reasons that cause deadly accidents in the emirate," he warned.
