A 14-year-old Syrian boy succumbed to fatal injuries after a car ran over him while he was riding his bicycle on a public road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim was heading to a stationery shop around 10.45pm, according to the boy's father. "The driver of the car did not notice my son and ran over him while he was crossing the road," he said.
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having been alerted of the tragic accident, swiftly dispatched a traffic police patrol, an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.
The boy, identified as Belal, sustained grave injuries and factures all over his body, and bled to death, according to medical sources.
"The boy was badly hurt, particularly in his head, and bled excessively before being rushed to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. However, he could not make it, and died shortly," they said.
In another accident, also in RAK, a 60-year-old Bangladeshi man, sustained serious injuries, the police sources stated.
Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, Deputy Director General of traffic and patrols department, RAK Police, said five other people, including four Emiratis and one from the Comoros Islands, were injured in a third accident here in RAK.
"Two of them seriously hurt while the other three sustained minor injuries," he said, urging drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations. "Speeding has been blamed for most of the accidents reported, and priority should be given to pedestrians."
