A UAE-based Indian man, who went on vacation to his hometown in Kerala on Friday, was killed in an accident, along with his wife and son, hours after he reached there.
According to family sources, 40-year-old Kollandeyithuveetil Shibu, his wife 34-year-old Siji and their 11-year-old son Aditya were killed in a horrific accident in Chathannoor in Kollam district. The father of two had left for India from Dubai early Friday morning, only to meet the tragic end.
The couple's younger son Aadhish (7) is the sole survivor of the accident, which took place on Friday afternoon around 2.30pm local time, according to media reports in Kerala. Sources close to the family informed Khaleej Times that the couple and their two children were travelling on a bike when a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus rammed into it.
"I was told that the couple and their older son died instantly. All four were riding on the bike, however, the younger child escaped and I'm told that he has sustained a few minor injuries," said Shijin, a family friend in Ras Al Khaimah.
Shibu is an employee of Ras Al Khaimah Al Jazeera Port. Siji and their two children lived and studied in Kerala. It is said that Shibu went to visit his family as his older son completed his examinations.
Shibu's neighbours in Kerala stated over phone that the mother and two kids lived in India, while Shibu had been working in RAK for three years. "He has been living in the UAE for about 12 years but joined the RAK job three years back," said Madhu, a neighbour. Shibu is also survived by a sister and his mother who used to live with his wife and children.
