8 new faces in UAE cabinet including 5 women
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday, announced the UAE's 29-person cabinet, which now includes nine women.
There are eight new faces in the cabinet, including five women. The average age of the new cabinet members is 38, reflecting the UAE's shift towards including youth in government.
Eight new ministers - five of them women - have been named as members of the UAE's cabinet by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. With the new additions, the UAE's 29-member cabinet now includes a total of nine women. With an average age of 38 years, the new additions represent a shift towards youth and a nod towards the future within the UAE's government."The new cabinet focuses on the future, youth, happiness, developing education, and combating cli-mate change," Shaikh Mohammed said in a tweet, adding that His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, had approved the changes. The announcements come just two days after Shaikh Mohammed announced a new, smaller, more streamlined structure for the federal government, which, he noted, is "comprised of less ministries but more ministers handling national, strategic and dynamic files".Among the changes was the creation of a new post - the Minister of State for Happiness - which will now be filled by Ohood Al Roumi, who will also continue in her role as Director General of the Prime Minister's Office. "National happiness isn't a wish. Plans, projects, programmes, indices will inform the work of our ministries to achieve happiness," Shaikh Mohammed noted. Another new post, the Minister of State for Tolerance, is to be filled by Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, who currently serves as Minister for International Cooperation and Development. "We hope she will play both a local and regional role," Shaikh Mo-hammed said of the appointment. The youngest new face in the cabinet is 22-year-old Oxford and NYU-Abu Dhabi graduate Shamma Al Mazrui, who has been named Minister of State for Youth Affairs. Shaikh Mohammed noted that as head of the Youth Council, Al Maz-ruin will "represent the hopes of our youth".
